BACKGROUND
Arrakis is an exceptionally smooth and mild tobacco. While the tobacco itself is different, it does possess similar characteristics in that it’s soft, mellow, and downright relaxing with a natural, realistic tone that, despite being so smooth, still has a strong sense of body and fullness to it that I find quite satisfying. It has undertones that could be described as cardamom or clove, but to be clear, this is not a pure tobacco – it’s more than tobacco, these are just the notes and characteristics of the tobacco flavor itself, rather than additional components in the juice.
REVIEW
Flavor Aroma Throat Hit and Final Notes
The vape opens with the tobacco on the inhale, which is met by the Italian tobacco with cloves and cardamom notes right at the top of the exhale. The flavors are then joined by the warmth of a spicy note which could be cinnamon, but either way, the result is a light sweetness that highlights the depth and complexity of the juice.
The Arrakis e-liquid tobacco blend is a flavor of old-time-y root beer that begins to come through the profile on the latter portion of the exhale but really shines on the finish. It leaves your tongue with the warmth of sweet spice and the rich, earthy, almost woodsy flavor of tobacco root. While it could just be the tobacco itself, which has a similar quality, at times, I think I taste a very light hint of anise as well. It might be there, it might not, it’s just too tough to call. If you’re averse to anise, I wouldn’t let that scare you away. It’s so light I’m not even sure it’s there.
This is the type of tobacco e-juice that even vapers that loathe tobacco e-liquids might be surprised to find themselves enjoying. It’s the kind of sweet, relaxing premium e-juice that one might enjoy on the porch swing as the sun goes down, sitting by a campfire, or just relaxing on the couch, working your way through the DVR. It’s gentle, more subdued, but still a very long way from subtle. There is something about the overall profile that feels comforting, serene, and laid-back.
I spent a good deal of time with this juice before sitting down to write this review, both in my standard reviewing rig, a ProVari/510 dripping atty and with one of my more advanced set-ups, a Duke mod topped with a Helios RBA. With the ProVari, I found the flavors to peak at 9.2w or 4.8v on a 2.5Ω atomizer. This yields a relatively mild throat hit for tobacco but delivers a substantial cloud. With The Duke (50w/10a capable VV device), I used a dual 28ga Kanthal coil (.8Ω) on 2mm Ekowool. I preferred Deep Thought at about 32w on this rig, with the Helios intake open just over halfway. While this set-up doesn’t affect flavor profile very much, aside from the obvious boost, I was surprised to find it also had little impact on throat hit. That being said, it does, of course, produce the fog machine that one might expect.
While in the Cloud Alchemists e-liquid Arrakis review, I’m going to say it again. I am thoroughly impressed. It’s rare to see a vendor put out such intense flavors, with such a varied selection, Cloud Alchemist has managed to produce not only some of the finest premium e-liquid, in the marketplace, but they also don’t miss a beat on their tobacco blends.
